How to Use Filters in Performance Analyzer

What It Does: The Performance Analyzer helps you research and compare how different annuity index strategies have performed historically.

Use the filters to narrow your search by annuity type, index, crediting method, fees, index history, reset period, carrier rating, and other product characteristics. From there, you can explore how strategies performed across different market periods, how long an index has existed, whether results include live or backtested history, and how historical performance has varied over time.

The goal is to make it easier to research, compare, and understand different strategies before determining which options may be appropriate to explore further for a client.

THE 5 KEY FILTERS (What to use):

Left Sidebar (all on one side):

  1. SPREAD - Set LEFT to "None" | RIGHT to "Any"
  2. PARTICIPATION - Set LEFT to "None" | RIGHT to "None"
  3. RESET PERIODS - Select "Annual" (not Biennial, Triennial, 4-Year, etc.)
  4. AVERAGING TYPES - Check "No averaging" (not Daily average or Monthly average)
  5. INDICES - Search your index (example: "S&P 500")

Everything else on the left sidebar (Annuity name, Account fees, Premium bonus, Additional premium, Income rider, Min index age, Free withdrawal, Rate guarantees) can stay on default.(Please adjust if needed.)

WHY THESE 5 FILTERS MATTER:

  • SPREAD "None" - Removes participation products
  • Example: Without this filter, you see "1-Year S&P 500 Cap 8% with 50% Participation" mixed in with plain caps. That's a different strategy (you get upside too). Setting to "None" removes those.

  • PARTICIPATION "None" - Removes upside-sharing products
  • Example: You want caps only. Without this, you see products where clients get 75% or 100% of the index upside on top of the cap. That changes everything about how the strategy works.

  • RESET PERIODS "Annual" - Filters by how often the cap resets
  • Example: Annual reset = cap resets every 1 year. If you select "5-Year" instead, the cap is locked in for 5 years (higher potential upside, but higher downside risk for 5 years). These are completely different strategies.

  • AVERAGING TYPES "No averaging" - Filters by how returns are measured
  • Example: "No averaging" = return measured on the last day of the year (standard). "Daily average" = return measured as the average of daily values all year (more conservative, dampens returns). Same index, different measurement = different results.

  • INDICES [Search your index] - Filters to one specific index
  • Example: S&P 500 historically performs differently than Russell 2000. If you don't search a specific index, you're comparing apples to oranges.

Top Bar (secondary filters):

Filter Guide

  • Annuity Type Choose the type of annuity strategies you want to research.

Example: Select Fixed Index to focus on FIA strategies, or Index Linked to review RILA/index-linked strategies.

  • Account Type  Choose whether you want to analyze a Single strategy or a Model that combines allocations.

Example: Use Single to evaluate one strategy by itself. Use Model when reviewing a combination of strategies or allocations.

  • Backtest Until  Choose how recent you want the historical analysis to run.

Example: Select Last Month for results through the most recently available month, or Last Year to end the analysis at the prior year.

  • Index Inception Helps you distinguish between live index history and hypothetical/backtested history.

Example: Leave it open to include hypothetical historical results, or narrow it if you only want to evaluate periods after the index was actually launched.

  • Minimum Rating  Narrow results based on the issuing carrier’s financial strength rating.

Example: Leave it on Any for a broader search, or select A- to only view products from carriers meeting that minimum rating.

  • Rate Lock Filters for products that offer a feature designed to lock an applicable crediting parameter, such as a cap or participation rate, for a specified period, subject to the product’s terms.

Example: If a strategy currently offers a 7% cap and the product allows that cap to be locked for a stated period, the cap may remain at that level during the lock period. This does not lock in or guarantee a return. Leave OFF if you don't specifically need this feature.

Other strategies (based on what you want):

1-Year S&P 500 Dynamic Intraday TCA PTP Cap

What it is: Uses daily trading mechanics instead of point-to-point

For: People who want more frequent measurement within the year

1-Year Nasdaq-100 12% Volatility Control PTP Cap

What it is: Dampens returns when markets get volatile

For: Conservative investors who want less downside risk in exchange for less upside

1-Year S&P 500 PTP Cap Guaranteed for Term

What it is: Adds a rate guarantee on top of the cap

For: People who want certainty the cap won't go down

1-Year S&P 500 PTP Cap with Bailout

What it is: Adds an exit option if the market drops too much

For: People who want built-in downside protection

CHOOSE BASED ON YOUR PREFERENCE:

  • Looking for plain caps only? Filter for products that say "1-Year [Index] PTP Cap" with nothing extra.

  • Want volatility control? Look for "Volatility Control" in the name.

  • Want a guarantee? Look for "Guaranteed" in the name.

  • Want downside protection? Look for "Bailout" or "Floor" in the name.

  • It's all about what strategy fits your client's needs.

QUICK CHECKLIST: Before analyzing results

Once you’ve selected all the filters you need, review your selections and explore the results.

his section is where you select the strategies you want to review, compare, or include in a report.

  • Checkbox Select one or multiple strategies from your results. You can also use the checkbox at the top to select multiple results at once.

  • ⋮ Three-Dot Menu  Opens additional actions or information available for that specific product or strategy.
  • Download Report After selecting the strategies you want to review, use this option to create a report of the historical performance results. The dropdown provides additional report options when available.
  • Export Table  Exports the results in a table format, which can be useful when you want to review the data outside of the Performance Analyzer or compare multiple results more closely.
  • Hypothetical Historical Performance  The results below show how the selected crediting strategies would have performed historically based on the available index data and methodology. These results are hypothetical and are not a guarantee of future performance or credited interest.

Example: If your search returns several annual point-to-point strategies, you can select the ones you want to compare, review their historical results, and then download a report to help explain the differences to a client.
