How to use the VA to FIA Transition tool

Purpose:

Input the client’s annuity details to analyze performance and fees.


Step 1: Enter Current Variable Annuity Details

Overview

In this step, you will input the client’s current Variable Annuity (VA) information to prepare for analysis and comparison.


Step 1: Select the Product

  • Company → Choose the annuity carrier
  • Product → Select the annuity product

💡 Certain fields may auto-fill based on the selected product.


Step 2: Enter Statement Dates

  • Issued Year & Month → When the annuity was opened
  • Statement Year & Month → Most recent statement date

📄 This information can be found on the client’s annuity statement.


Step 3: Input Financial Values

  • Initial Premium → Original investment amount
  • Total Withdrawals → Amount withdrawn to date
  • Ending Account Value → Current account balance

Step 4: Review Fees

Enter or confirm the following fees:

  • M&E (Mortality & Expense)
  • Administrative Fees
  • Subaccount Fees
  • Rider Fees

💡 Adjust values as needed based on the client’s statement.

Purpose:

See how the current annuity is performing after fees.

  1. Review the key numbers:
    • Gross Return (before fees)
    • Fees
    • Net Return (after fees)
    • Total Growth vs Net Growth

      Look at the chart:

    • Shows how much is going to fees vs your growth

      Point out the impact:

    • “This is what you earned vs what you kept after fees”

Step 3: Select Allocation Strategies (VA to FIA Comparison)

Overview

In this step, you will select a Fixed Index Annuity (FIA) product and choose how funds are allocated across available strategies for comparison against a client’s current Variable Annuity (VA). Select the FIA Product

At the top of the screen:

  • Company → Choose the annuity carrier
  • Product → Select the desired FIA product

Review Available Strategies

In the Strategy Allocations section, each row represents a different crediting strategy, such as:

  • Fixed Account
  • S&P 500 Cap
  • Participation Rate strategies

You will also see:

  • Recent / Best / Worst → Historical performance for reference only (not guaranteed)

Enter Allocation Percentages

On the right-hand side:

  • Enter the percentage (%) you want allocated to each strategy
  • The total must equal 100%

💡 Example:

  • 50% Fixed Account
  • 50% S&P 500 Strategy

Continue

Once allocations are complete:

  • Click Continue to proceed to the projected performance comparison

Step 4: Review Projected Performance (VA vs FIA Comparison)

Overview

In this step, you will review a side-by-side comparison of the projected performance between the client’s current Variable Annuity (VA) and the selected Fixed Index Annuity (FIA).

Set Life Expectancy, and see the performance comparison between the FIA option and the existing VA [and also remember you can create a pdf report]:





Step 1: Adjust Projection Settings

At the top of the screen:

  • Projection Period → Adjust the timeline using the slider (based on life expectancy)

    Performance Scenario → Select:

    • Most Recent
    • Best
    • Worst

💡 This allows you to evaluate different performance scenarios over time.


Step 2: Review Projected Results Comparison

Compare key metrics between the Fixed Index Annuity and Variable Annuity:

  • Gross Rate of Return → Performance before fees
  • Annual Fee → Total fees applied
  • Net Rate of Return → Performance after fees
  • Projected Gross Growth → Total growth before fees
  • Projected Fees → Total fees over the selected period
  • Projected Net Growth → Growth after fees
  • Account Value → Final projected value

💡 Use this section to understand how fees and returns impact long-term outcomes.


Step 3: Review Year-by-Year Comparison

Scroll down to view a detailed breakdown for each year:

  • Beginning of Year (BOY)
  • Growth
  • Fees
  • End of Year (EOY)

This helps illustrate how both annuities perform over time and how fees affect the overall account value.


Step 4: Download the Report

  • Click Download Report to generate a client-ready comparison summary

  • Client name and case details
  • Report title: Hypothetical Annuity Comparison
  • Date and producer information

2. Current & Alternative Annuity Details

Includes a summary of both annuities:

Current Variable Annuity

  • Carrier and product name
  • Initial premium and current value
  • Withdrawals
  • Fee breakdown (M&E, admin, subaccount, etc.)

Alternative Fixed Index Annuity

  • Carrier and product name
  • Riders and fees (if applicable)
  • Selected allocation strategies and terms
